Strain Review

THE HAPPY CHEF
LEMON HAZE

PARENTS
HYBRID: LEMON SKUNK
SATIVA: SILVER HAZE

FLAVOR
SWEET, CITRUS

APPEARANCE
The buds are a light shade of green and yellow with amber hairs on the trichomes giving it an even more yellow tent.

REVIEW
I not only had a relaxed feeling from this strain, but I was also full of energy.  A long lasting feeling of happiness and euphoria.  I would rank this strain highly for those who suffer from depression.  The relaxed feeling helped with my arthritis, but kept me awake and energized, making it a perfect daytime med.  The flavor on exhale was smooth with a sweet citrus taste.  This is ranked high with me on the Sativa Dominant strains. It is also a great plant for a at home grower.  Lemon Haze, I find, is perfect with edibles, both to cook with and for the consumer on the go.
This strains THC has been measured at about 15-20% with CBD of 0.38%.

Hemp, a Farmers Best Friend.

THE HAPPY CHEF
HEMP, A FARMERS BEST FRIEND

Many may not know this, but the dense growth of hemp actually kills weeds (the bad kind, lol).  Hemp crops are a very effective method of killing tough weeds, even thistle, in farming by minimizing the pool of weed seeds of the soil.  Using hemp this way can help farmers avoid the use of herbicides and gain organic certification and benefits for crop rotation. For successful hemp farming, particularly deep, humus-rich, nutrient-rich soil with controlled water flow is preferable.  Compressed, sandy, and water logged soils may affect the aryl development of the plants like it would any other crop.  However, an advantage to growing hemp verse other crops, hemp is relatively insensitive to cold temperatures and can withstand frost down to -5 degrees C.  Another fact is that the water requirement of hemp is at least 14 times lower than that of cotton. Hemp is also a beneficial crop for its soil.  Its large root system helps with soil loosening and helps benefit the crops to come after it. Since hemp is very self-compatible, it can also be grown several years in a row in the same fields (monoculture). Yet another advantage of hemp is it can be vulnerable to various pathogens, including bacteria, fungi, viruses and other miscellaneous pathogens. Such diseases often lead to the reduction in fiber quality, stunted growth, and death of a plant.  These diseases rarely affect the yield of a hemp field, so hemp production is not traditionally dependent on the use of pesticides.
Can I get a YAY for HEMP!!!
:-)

NO MORE OF THIS!
BUT
MORE OF THIS! :-)

The phrase "mop crop" is used to describe hemps ability to clear the impurities out of waste water, such as sewage effluent, excessive phosphorus from chicken feces, or unwanted chemicals.  As a matter of fact, hemp is currently being used to clean contaminants at the Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster site.  This process of clearing radioisotopes as well as a variety of other toxins from the soil, water, and air is known as phyoremediation. Dr. Keith Bolton from Southern Cross University in Lismore, New South Wales, Austrailia, is the leading Eco-technologist researcher in this area.

Also hemp can also be used as warmth for both plants and animals.  The core of the stem is called Hemp Shives.  Broken parts of this core, known as hemp hurds, are used for horticultural mulch and also as animal bedding (horses, for instance).

Due to its rapid and dense growth characteristics, growing massive crops of this known versatile plant is NOW "AGAIN" being looked at to be added to or agricultural industry.  Please help spread knowledge to aid in the legalization of Hemp.  After all Hemp Helps!

You may also sub out the lump crab meat for Fresh Salmon.  Equally as delicious and very healthy.  Try to stay away from all canned seafood.  Fresh is best as far as this chef is concerned. (besides look at the dates on those cans of crab meat...(ehhhh) Now, it is difficult to not get farmed Salmon as Atlantic Salmon is on the endangered species list.  Your best bet is to consume wild or organically farmed fish to avoid any additional pesticides, fungicides and excessive omega-6 consumption.

Prevention is Better than a Cure.

I posted this meme to my social medias as a resource for those to get away from the false propaganda surrounded around marijuana.  A lovely intelligent woman by the name of Mareena commented beneath my post stating that she had written a paper about the rising issue of prescription drug overdose and heroin use as becoming an epidemic in her suburban home town.  She was kind enough to email me her well written researched paper and I am using her research as well as my own for this blog post.  Thank you again Mareena for sharing this with me.

There is a lot of old propaganda about Marijuana as being "The Devils Plant", "Devils Harvest", "Gateway Drug", "Illegal it's WRONG" the list goes on.  This list of false reasons has been embedded in our societies brains for decades which has lead to the overall debate of "should marijuana be legalized?" Why does society believe so easily these false statements about a natural growing plant?

"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it.  Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many.  Do not believe in anything simply because it was found written in your religious books.  Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders.  Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations.  But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conductive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it."
-Buddha-

All of us have put our trust in a prescription drug or doctor with the belief and comfort of that "they are a doctor/pharmacists they know more than me and what i need to help me get better".  Yes, doctors and pharmacists are very intelligent people.  They have gone through years of schooling of the human body and they have done lab tests that have proven certain medicines to heal/help with certain aliments.  Those are facts.  I am not writing this to discredit their hard work and schooling.  I am writing this because I believe that EVERYONE needs to do their own research on their aliments and choose their best option for their bodies.  Because another FACT is...what do you call a doctor who graduated dead last in medical school? - (Answer: Doctor)
Doctors and Pharmacists are people too and people make mistakes.  Also people need to understand that the world is not as sugar coated as we think.  There has been cases of doctors messing up on a diagnoses.  There has been cases of pharmacists giving out incorrect medication.  There also has been cases of doctors getting paid off or "kick backs" from pharmaceutical companies in order to push there drugs on to patients.  These are all facts one can find doing very little research.  Truth is the majority of our society believes everything they hear when they should believe to "question" everything they hear.  And my question is....

How did this...

become more comforting...

than this?

I give you Human vs Nature

I don't know about you, but I get a good laugh off of prescription drug info-mercials on television. "(enter drug name) ..helps with Joint Pain and Arthritis ...(then in small print) can lead to stomach pain, nausea, and anal leakage." Um...excuse me did you say anal leakage?  As in something is going to be leaking out of your behind? NO THANKS! LOL Every drug or medicine you take will have side effects.  Some side effects, depending on the person, can be most unpleasant. The worst side effects that have happened in some cases are addiction and/or overdose leading to the loss of ones life and those effects have not yet been felt by my favorite healing plant. :)

So...why is our society so trusting of legal prescription drugs verse a natural growing plant? Because of the word "illegal" you believe that it is unsafe?  Collecting rain water is "illegal" (is that unsafe) OR better yet, alcohol is LEGAL and is the leading cause of death worldwide...but it's "Legal."

Many do not know that prescription pain pills are said to be the largest gateway to heroin abuse.  It is a growing problem nationwide.  The effort to fix this epidemic has been to eliminate prescription pain killers in homes of individuals where they are easily accessible by addicts or curious teenagers.   This approach, as you could expect, did not work as well was they had hoped.  Focussing all the attention on eliminating them is not the right approach to fixing this social problem our nation is facing.  My sister lost her life to a prescription drug overdose of Methadone (legal drug to wean off heroin addiction).  I know I am not the only person that has felt the effects of loosing a loved one to addiction.  And the only question that I have is...Why?  Why is this becoming such a nationwide problem? Why isn't there at least one SAFER medicine available for those in pain?

The research done by Mareena on her home town of Cuyahoga County states the same, "prescription pain killers are the largest gateway to heroin use, abuse, and overdose.  According to Cuyahoga County Pleas Judge, David Matia, 60 % of the individuals in drug court are there for opiates and about half of those individuals started with legal prescriptions for legitimate medical reasons.  When their prescriptions are over, they are now dependent on the opiates, and are forced to find an accessible alternative: heroin, which is also cheaper.  Curious adolescents find there prescriptions in their parents' medicine cabinets and take them for themselves or friends.  These teenagers find themselves addicted without access to more of the drug so, they too, must find an alternative.  It's one thing when individuals are abusing controlled dosage prescription pills, but from the streets there is no guarantee on the product and the fatal amounts are more likely to be taken.  Another concern is that heroin sold on the streets is becoming more and more pure, making it stronger and easier to overdose on.  Sales of legal prescription drugs have increased by 300% since 1999 and the number of deaths by overdose of heroin has tripled.  Since, prescription pain pills are one of the most known leading causes of heroin overdose, it seems appropriate to focus most of the attention on reducing the amount of prescription pain pills available in homes.  In 2011, Ohio Governor John Kasich passed the "Pill Mill Bill" with the goal to crack down on pain management doctors over-prescribing pain pills.  Approximately 91,000 prescriptions were seized, most of them being opioids.  Licenses of 38 doctors and 13 pharmacists were revoked and 15 doctors were convicted of contributing to the drug abuse of patients.  Drug drop-off zones were created allowing individuals to properly dispose of unwanted prescription pills in their homes so that friends and family could not have access to them.  These measures failed severely.  Addicts had already been created and now the prescription pain pills these individuals used are unavailable sending them to the streets for heroin.  Eliminating prescription pills created more heroin abusers leading to the need to help these addicts get over their addiction.

Rehabilitating heroin addicts, using methadone, is a highly effective method used.  Imprisoning addicts will not help their problem.  For those already addicted, rehabilitation is the most logical option.  Rehabilitating heroin addicts requires replacing their drug with methadone.  Methadone inhabits the same opioid receptors as heroin without providing the "rush" felt by heroin.  If given properly, methadone is highly effective and also blocks the feelings felt by heroin if one was to still try and take it.
Preventing the use of heroin, in the first place, should be a main priority.  The previous methods mentioned all take action heroin has already been abused and in the case of death by overdose, it is too late of an action then.  Heroin is so dangerous that one can overdose and die the very first time they use it.  Many first time users of the drug are teenagers looking to experiment just for fun so they might not know anything about it.  To them, it would seem like any other street drug that they've heard about, and it doesn't seem so dangerous.  These youth need to know the high risks of heroin use in order to prevent them from even trying it.  Programs discussing the extremely addictive properties of heroin, and the death by overdose rates would show how dangerous it really is.  Since studies show that some youth are more at risk of drug use, special attention needs to be given to these youth specifically.
The heroin epidemic in Cuyahoga County continues to grow and alarms many residents.  Family and friends are affected when a neighbor, classmate, child, or co-worker dies of heroin overdose.  Previous approaches taken, such as the "Pill Mill Bill" and incarcerating individuals found with heroin, have not helped reduce the rate of people dying from an overdose.  Methods such as rehabilitating addicts and preventing initial use of the drug might be more effective in treating the social problem of death by heroin overdose in Cuyahoga County."  (Mareena)

I agree with Miss Mareena.  Prevention is better than a cure.  I like most grew up a very "sugar coated" or "sheltered" life.  No rated R movies.  Disney movies throughout my youth (lol).  BUT there is one movie I watched, as an adult, that scared me half to death, "Requiem for a Dream".  It was a GREAT film.  Excellent in fact mostly because of how "real" it was.  There were scenes that depicted the severity of the pain that those individuals went through for their addiction.  Those scenes definitely scared me from ever trying the drugs shown in that movie.  In saying that, I remember having a D.A.R.E. class in school, but I don't remember seeing the "real" that I saw in that film.  I don't remember getting scared. I was taught regurgitated information of the chemicals in those drugs and what text book said to be "bad" for us.  But I never "saw" the physical...the pain...the suffering...the stages of addiction and where your life can go.  I know we want to hide the ugliness of the world from our children's eyes, but maybe we should change our teachings a bit for our youth.  Probably not show them this exact movie, but something similar.  Their eyes will be opened eventually so why not have it shown in a realistic way of a "what if" situation.  We need to educate in ways that will actually get through our kids heads.  They need to see what happens in those situations and how those drugs can ruin their lives. The two main things that govern our society is money and vanity.  People spend a ridiculous amount of time and money on items to make them more attractive or to show wealth.  Many if asked admit that they only go to the gym to look good naked. (we all want that, lol) If you showed a kid at an early age photos of what heroin/crack/cocaine addiction does to your body would they dare try it?  If you explained what an EXPENSIVE habit those drugs are and how they will never have nice things because all of their money would go to their addiction.  If you educate them on the facts of "this is what happens" I believe more of them WILL think twice.  And thats all they need to do is think twice.  I have found that you cannot protect your child from everything and the worst thing you can do is too not educate them on things they will face in their life.  You will at some point see dangerous drug use.  You may be asked to try.  It is your choice and choices are better made when one has knowledge on the subject.

What You MayNot Know About Your Microwave...

Throw Out That Microwave!

Like the saying goes “You are what you Eat”. To go along with that saying I would like to add that “how” you cook your food, I believe, has a HUGE effect on who you are and your life as well. In saying that I would like to talk to you all about my beliefs on the microwave.

A microwave oven, in simple terms, decays and changes the molecular structure of the food by the process of radiation. Radiation = electromagnetic waves emitted by the atoms and molecules of a radioactive substance as a result of nuclear decay. Radiation causes ionization, which occurs when a neutral atom loses or gains electrons.

I read a experiment conducted by Arielle Reynolds (Knoxville, Tennessee) about “Microwave Water in Plants”. In this experiment she divided filtered water into two parts. The first part was boiled in a pan on the stove, and the second part was boiled in a microwave. After the boiled water was cooled to room temperature, she used the water to water two identical plants to see “if” there would be any difference in the growth and life of the plant. Ms. Reynolds thought that the structure of the water may have been compromised by the microwave. I myself completed this experiment and the results led, as it did for Arielle, to the demise of my microwave as the “microwaved watered plant” was dead in less then 2 weeks. So if the microwave water kills plants -- it can definitely hurt people also, wouldn’t you think?

Well over 90% of Americans use microwave ovens for their daily meal preparations. When comparing them to conventional ovens, I agree they are more convenient and energy efficient which is why so few homes and restaurants are with out them. We’ve all been told that microwaving food is not the same as radiation treatment. The two processes are “supposed” to use completely different waves of energy and at different intensities. Of course, if microwave ovens were really harmful, our government would never allow them on the market, would they? Do you think it is possible that millions of people are ignorantly sacrificing their health in exchange for convenience?

There have been studies suggest that long-term exposure to non-ionizing form of radiation may have a carcinogenic effect (can provoke cancer). The Microwave oven uses a non-ionizing form of radiation which is not AS cancerous as the ionizing radiation. Nevertheless the ionizing radiation is highly carcinogenic and only few exposures to ionizing radiation can result in a random form of cancer. The FDA has claimed to have not found any links to microwaved food creating any health hazards to its consumers. The agency, however, has studies of the possibility that low-level radiation emitted from microwaves could affect those who stand nearby while they're in use. Our DNA is very sensitive to radiations of any form meaning any long time exposure to both ionizing and non-ionizing radiation can change the cell’s DNA. If this happens, then the cell’s in built instructions about how to grow, adapt and live will be confused. In this there is a possibility for the cell to do something very opposite from what it is supposed to do. So are you still willing to risk your health over a fast way to heat your food?

Some Stoners’ I know also use microwaves NOT to cook food but as an aid with smoking. I happen to know many who microwave their blunts saying it dries the blunt and makes it a lot smoother. Some also believe it increases the potency. In vaporizers, THC escapes from the buds around 350 degrees or less. THC is destroyed at temps not much higher than that. IF you purchase LOW quality bud that is still moist and wasn’t properly cured it can POSSIBLY have an effect of increased potency. If you have GOOD BUD (properly curred, quality, medical) there is NO NEED and lets not risk ruining our weed. Trust the chef and just purchase higher quality of weed and avoid zap frying your medicine!

Microwave cooking is not natural, nor healthy, and I believe it to be far more dangerous to the human body than anyone could imagine. The decision lies with each consumer as to whether or not you choose to eat food cooked with a microwave oven or to even purchase one in the first place. I ask you to do some research on who invented the microwave, and why…why the Soviet Union banned microwaves in 1976?…If there was doubt to “if” they are harmful, WHY in less then two weeks does microwaved (cooled down) water kill plants? …If the microwave changes the molecules of water and we as humans are 60% water, what will it do to us?

I’m sure once you answer these questions for yourself your microwave ovens may soon find themselves in the nearest dumpster.

So regardless of what “certain” organizations have released as far as information on the overall safety of the microwave, THIS HAPPY CHEF personally will not use them based on my own research, experiments and conclusions.

Legal vs Illegal

Truth is there is no other drug that has, in legalizing, been called "The Movement". Why is it called "The Movement"? Why are there so many doctors, celebrities, and patients fighting to have marijuana legalized?

Cigarettes do absolutely NOTHING good to you and are proven to take years off your life, cause severe health problems, and maybe end your life. But yet, at the age of 18, I can go to the local market and purchase a pack of cigarettes with no judgements. They have been called "cancer sticks" for years and are proven to cause cancer, yet our country still sells them? And then there is alcohol. No one will question an individual if they "had a bad day" and want to grab a drink at the nearest bar, but alcohol contributes as one of THE top causes of deaths in America. Rather by alcohol poisoning or driving under the influence (DUI). Most people don't actually even think of alcohol as poison, but that's actually what it is in extreme doses. This is why, when you overdose, it is called alcohol poisoning. So it's cool to ingest poison? Alcohol contains ethanal which we also put in our gas tanks (doesn't that sound awesome to put in our body). Ethanol (alcohol) is a psychoactive drug that has a depressant effect. Alcoholic beverages can be addictive, and the state of addiction to alcohol is known as alcoholism. Isn't that a huge problem in America? And yet society has made it a tradition to share drinks with friends, family, and co-workers in extreme excess. There is even holidays dedicated to drinking like St. Patricks Day, New Years Eve, and the Fourth of July. Alcohol is also the only drug that causes harm to every organ in your body. In fact, half the cancers of the esophagus, larynx, and mouth are linked to alcohol. Did you know that? Excessive and prolonged consumption of alcohol can cause heart disease, high blood pressure, and irregular heart beats. Prolonged alcohol abuse can erode the stomach lining and cause chronic blood seepage into the stomach. Alcohol also causes harmful effects to your liver and kidneys. The job of your kidneys is to regulate water, hormones, and acid base/minerals (calcium, sodium). Alcohol compromises the balancing function of your kidneys and thus causes kidney failure if you over indulge. Liver, kidneys, heart, reproductive organs, brain, ...the list goes on.

Now, I am not against alcohol. I, personally, only indulge in drinking wine (no liquor, no beer) and I enjoy sharing a glass or two with my girls. Also sometimes I like to wild out with my friends, not often but occasionally. I try and keep a healthy balance. My argument isn't to be against anything that is already legal and consumed. But you have to ask...why is something that doesn't "do the body good" legal? And in saying that...why is a plant that has been PROVEN to have healing capabilities illegal? It has ZERO LOGIC! None whatsoever! There isn't a debate I love more then the "it's a drug" and "it's illegal" arguments. If you believe that... then open your eyes America!! Look what is legal...Cigarettes do NOTHING to you but kill you and then how about poor diet? Americas food is banned in 30 countries, THIRTY COUNTRIES, but it's legal in the U.S. of A, isn't it? I grew up in a small town where we had a farmers market that we would buy fresh grown vegetables, we got our milk from Bergies Dairy (a dairy farm) and we actually had a relationship with our butcher. Times have changed. If you want more insight on where your food comes from there is a documentary called Food Inc that everyone should watch. We all have a right to know how are food is being processed before we put it in our bodies. The animals, the farmers...disgusting how they are being treated. Now lets go back to alcohol. Alcohol causes 1 million deaths a year yet is very welcomed by society at every special occasion. And then there is Marijuana. Marijuana has caused zero deaths EVER in history, is given to cancer patients by their physicians to help with ailments and people really think that its bad for you?? If you believe that... I will tell you what I told all the others, your argument is INVALID! And Zero Deaths beats Zero Logic HANDS DOWN and NECK UP!

In my line of work I always get into the "it's a gateway drug" or "smoking weed is bad" debates. The first "drug" I saw wasn't marijuana nor was it the first "drug" I tried. The first drug I tried was sneaking alcohol out of my parents liquor cabinet (sorry mom & dad lol). And the first drug I saw was someone smoking a cigarette. Yes I believe that smoking cigarettes is terrible, you are literally paying for something to kill you slowly. BUT, they are still sold. And with that fact right there I see no reason why a pack of 20 joints sold in a pharmacy is SO MUCH WORSE then a pack of cigarettes that are so easily obtainable. Yes marijuana is a "drug". So is aspirin. There are a lot of cases of people who have overdosed on aspirin as well. So...I'll tell you...I personally do not use aspirin and choose not to because overall when I choose a medicine... I'll choose the one that is safer.

So... which would you choose?

The other day I had a patient over who told me that his friends daughter has gotten into cocaine. She lost her scholarship at her university, losing friends, job on the rocks! (The works) My patient said he wanted to tell him, but doesn't want to be the bad guy or have him be mad at him...

I lost my sister to a prescription drug overdose of methadone six years ago. Methadone is the "legal" form of heroin that doctors prescribe to wean them off of heroin. The absolute worst day of my life was getting that phone call from my brother.

Me and my family would have loved it if someone let us know that this was going on in my sisters life. Cause maybe...maybe we could've caught it early enough so that she would still be with us today. If you know of someone (friend, coworker, etc) who might be in this situation -- TELL THEM!!! Don't be scared of being the bad guy because it's either you are the bad guy or someone's life. (That's how you should look at it! )

I myself do not use any man made drugs (I don't even keep aspirin in my house). I use marijuana as my all around pain reliever. In saying that... I feel the reason WHY it's called "The Movement" is bcause there is no drug to date that has been PROVEN to do help, heal, and cure ailments that has to be voted for and fought to be used.

I'm sharing my story with you all in hopes that it may help one of you or someone you know. We all have a voice! Don't let yours not be heard!
